Learning Streams

The pilot learning stream at Iowa State University is a learning stream in the Computer Engineering curriculum.  This learning stream replaced the traditional course sequence of CPRE 210-211-305 over three semesters with an integrated stream sequence of CPRE 281X-381X over two semesters.

CPRE 210, 211, and 305 constitute a "stream" of courses with a natural progression of learning that focuses on the fundamentals of digital systems design and microprocessors.

CPRE 281X and 381X join the course content more cohesively, providing a learning experience that focuses on the fundamentals of digital systems design and microprocessors.

The CPRE 281X and 381X learning stream was first offered starting with CPRE 281X in the Fall 2004 semester and CPRE 381X in the Spring 2005 semester.  The learning stream was again offered starting with CPRE 281X in the Fall 2005 semester and CPRE 381X in the Spring 2006 semester.  The most recent course home pages may be found at the links below.

Future learning stream work includes the development of an embedded systems course sequence, CPRE 288/388/488, that both replaces and improves upon the current courses in embedded systems at Iowa State University, CPRE 211 and CPRE 488X.  Development of this course sequence is set to begin in the fall of 2006.  CPRE 488X is a new course in advanced embedded systems topics that was offered for the first time in the fall of 2005.  The course website is linked below.
